Aeolian Light is a monolithic light installation, conceived by the award winning digital media art group Squidsoup, and created from six years of research into light and digitalisation. Situated on the blustery waterfront of Salford Quays, a 10msq plot of land on the Plaza between The Lowry and the Lowry Outlet, provides the spot for this unique site-specific installation where a hybrid environment of the physical and the virtual has been imagined through a series of suspended lights on individual points that will respond to the movement of the wind. Visitors to this outdoor installation can chose to observe the spectacle from the outside or step inside, where they will essentially become immersed in the installation by triggering the light with his/her movement leaving a trail of luminescence. Given the unpredictability of Manchester’s weather, and the sensitivity of the lights, this outdoor exhibition could be a picture of serenity and calm, or the essence of chaos and activity.
