Comedy Picks of the Week ft Lucy Beaumont and Brendon Burns

Having recently seen a snippet of Gein’s Family Giftshop’s new sketches it seems pretty safe to say that they won’t be suffering from that difficult second album following from the Edinburgh smash hit that was volume 1. Join them for a free night of comedy as they try out more half formed material to a half formed audience. Along for the free wheeling ride is the delightful and delirious Lou Conran and the street smart Danny Mcloughlin. Award winning free comedy at a great pub in the King’s Arms.

Eggs Collective Get A Round | Contact | Thu 5 – Sat 7 Feb | 9.30pm | £13/7
Another troupe that enjoyed success at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe with their show ‘Get A Round’ are Eggs Collective. Part of Queer Contact 2015 as well as a wealth of other theatre and stand up, this unique show is high energy and low class. Claiming that it reaks of blossom hill and with a promo video featuring them waking up in shop fridges this is a smartly written performance piece from a group very much on the up.

SOS TV Live | 3 Minute Theatre | Fri 6 Feb | 7pm | £4
Randolph Tempest and Lee Fenwick take over 3 Minute Theatre with their huge cast of characters that live within their subconscious. Joining them for this installment of the best TV show that’s not on TV will be human lion Danny Sutcliffe, the internet’s greatest commenter George Cottier and hotly tipped Penella Mellor. There will be screenings of sketches that Tempest and Fenwick have previously made and an overwhelming sense that the whole place might explode at any moment.

Brendon Burns | Deaf Institute | Sat 7 Feb | 8pm | £10/8
Brendon Burns has long since known that he’s not to every one’s tastes so this year he’s taking his fate (and tour) into his own hands and steering clear of the comedy clubs to ensure that only those that want to see his act seek him out. His ‘Outside the Box’ takes him to comic book shops and even a zoo as he traverses the nation with his own acid tongued charm, stopping off at the not quite a comedy club Deaf Institute whilst in Manchester, Burns will be able to be at his vitriolic best without fear of non-fans getting offended.

Lucy Beaumont | The Lowry | Sat 7 Feb | 8pm | £12
Another success story from last year’s fringe was Hull native Lucy Beaumont with the now rather dated ‘We Can Twerk It Out’ (remember twerking? It was massive in 2014, heady times). Beaumont mines the idiosyncrasies of her hometown for big laughs in her debut tour and her timing has been likened to that of Les Dawson. Big things beckon for the diminutive comic so make sure you see her now in The Lowry studio.
