Sold out: Electric Chair’s final party waves farewell to The Roadhouse

The Roadhouse may be closing in a few months, but its calendar is currently packed with cool gigs and shindigs. One such event is a very special one-off party from a long-running club night: Electric Chair is celebrating its 20th birthday in May, and where better to reminisce than where it all began, at the Roadhouse. The night specialises in a heady mix of hip-hop, soul, funk, house and techno. It was launched by DJs Justin Crawford and Luke Cowdrey, better known as The Unabombers, who’ve gone on to launch Electric Elephant festival in Croatia, and successful bars Electrik in Chorlton and Burton Road’s Volta. Over the years, there have been over 150 events, and it has welcomed special guests including Mr Scruff, Nightmares On Wax and Gilles Peterson. It started at the Roadhouse back in the mid 1990s, and changed the way many people viewed clubbing at the time, offering a more relaxed and, well, decadent take on fun, where smart shoes were not compulsory and people really got into the vibe. Expect fierce competition for tickets from the Chair’s extremely loyal crowd.
