Free fun: Art Garden Party at the Whitworth

Manchester’s fabulously revamped museum celebrates summer and a recent Museum of the Year nomination with a big, free garden-and-gallery party. There will be loads of family activities, afternoon teas, picnics and live music by day, including live jazz, the chance to plant your own plant and make living artworks in the park, as well as decorate (and eat) heart-shaped biscuits. Free tours will be running too, and the whole place will generally be as it usually is, only with added fun. As the daytime events draw to a close, Disco Mums (stars of Sounds from the Other City, and Festival No. 6) will be hosting a late night dance party. Unfortunately this one has already sold out.
