In this exhibition, two artists who are both gaining reputation in their respective fields come together to form a cultural reflection of Manchester. Antony Rowland is a poet who won the prestigious Manchester Poetry Prize in 2012 and is now a professor at Manchester Metropolitan University. He writes poetry that draws from the many layers of contemporary Manchester; its structure, its culture and its underlying language. Colin Taylor, a painter, has been working on a series of paintings of the Manchester skyline, viewed from some of the tallest buildings in the city. For his current series he is looking into the urban experience, using Manchester as the launching pad for a number of works that reflect the vibrancy of the city. Both artists, poet and painter, have recognised a synergy between their practices in relation to the Manchester experience and this exhibition will be an observation of how words and painting can communicate the city.
