Gogo Penguin are a group of local musicians. They met while studying at RNCM and obviously made some kind of pact to create gorgeous soundscapes and heavily jazz and hip hop influenced music. Playing with a Steinway grand piano arranged especially for this concert, and with the venue’s impeccable soundsystem to boot, it’s a real one-off. Support comes from one of the key acts in the new wave of spaced-out electronic music sweeping the UK, Neko Neko. Also known as Graham Shortland, this Manchester-based electronic artist has been compared to the likes of Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin and Four Tet. Also supporting is Chronicle, a pairing of Tom Dicicco (one of the masterminds behind the Inner Surface Music label, and renowned producer of dubbed-out techno) and Chris Finke (signed to the Mote Evolver label, and resident at Atomic Jam) performing new material. Expect a journey through the more ambient and spacious side of techno, with able DJ back up from Manchester Wire club writer, Simon Webbon, and Finders Keeper’s Luke J Murray with an all vinyl ambient set.
