John-Luke Roberts | The Pub/Zoo | Tue 28 Jul | 7pm | £5/3
The elder statesman of London’s Alternative Comedy Memorial Society takes his Fringe preview to XS Malarkey with a lot of hype and a really big suit. After the death of his father, Roberts did what any self respecting comic would do and write a show based around the complicated relationship the two of them shared. Though we can guarantee you won’t have seen a show about a deceased father quite like this as Roberts remains silent for a lot of it and eventually dresses in his late dad’s suit (a much larger man than his offspring). Absurd and sometimes very touching, it’s a glimpse through the cracks of a clown.

Manchester’s Alternative Comedy Emporium signs off for the summer with an impressive line up from the more left field side of comedy. Your host Red Redmond introduces the lefter than left Will Setchell, the surreal findings of Mat Ewins and the utter sideways charm of Cokey Falkow. Kosmonaut has proven itself to be a real gem of the comedy scene with its red brick walls echoing the basement clubs of New York and with Red curating shows of this high grade then long may it continue.

David Stanier’s Silly Party | The King’s Arms | Thu 30 Jul | 9.15pm | FREE
It’s been a while since we’ve had a silly party and so David Stanier has popped on his silliest hat, and his ‘fun trunks’ and dived into the King’s Arms with a show so packed with gags and nonsense you’ll find it impossible not to wish for a silly party every week. One of the last shows of the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival Stanier looks set to end it all on a massive high with games, treats and appearances from his comedy pals. It’s free in and the most fun you can have whilst not being a child.

This has been sold out for some time so this is more a reminder that this ludicrous line up is already here, and we invite you to have a look at the facey b event below to ask, nay, beg for tickets or returns. The headline act alone would be enough to get you salivating, but also on the bill is wunderkind Liam Williams and wildman Glenn Wool, with the whole thing being compered by Brendon Burns. A better line up you won’t see this year. The show starts at bang on 7.30pm so make sure you’re down early. You won’t want to miss a second of this one.
