Festejar: Three-day Spanish festival at Albert Square

Barely a week goes by without Albert Square playing host to some shindig or other, and the city is all the better for it. Taking place there in early September is Festejar, a three-day celebration of all things Spanish. Last year’s event was a big hit, and this one looks set to be another corker. At the heart of the festival is music: there will be bands, DJs and dance classes. Standouts include Break Latino, a local crossover act that uses classical guitar to spice up English language hits. The Cervantes Institute will be hosting taster sessions of flamenco, tango and salsa dancing. If that all sounds too energetic, they will also be hosting a beginners’ language workshop. Of course, no Iberian celebration would be complete without the cuisine, so there will be many popular street food vendors – including a seriously solid line up of Spanish food purveyors including pop up restaurants and delis from our favourite local secret La Bandera, Liverpool’s hugely acclaimed and multi-award-winning Lunya (soon to be a permanent fixture in Manchester), La Vina, churros specialist Chrutopia and a deli selection to take home from Spanish Cupboard.
