Sankeys hosts joint headliners of Omar S and Kyle Hall on Saturday 6 October, for a showcase of display of Detroit techno perfection. Alex Omar Smith (pictured) has been a stalwart member of the Detroit underground for the past decade, consistently turning out guttural, minimalistic techno tracks while remaining firmly away from the public eye. Now he’s starting to receive the recognition he so thoroughly deserves, re-releasing much of the back catalogue of his home-grown label FXHE, and releasing a number of his classic tunes through his part in the Fabric series (no. 45 for those of you who are asking). Kyle Hall is one of the younger members of Omar’s local scene – though one of the more ambitious and, unquestionably, successful. At 18, having grown up in the same neighbourhood as Motor City legends Robert Hood and Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir, he’d already dropped several high-quality releases on labels including FXHE and Hyperdub, and was at the head of his own label Wild Oats. We’re blessed to have the chance to see him in such a stellar line-up (also including Jozef K and others) – this a great opportunity to see the top brass of the Detroit music scene in one of Manchester’s most iconic clubs.
