December and January are perfect months for eating hearty food with friends and sharing a bottle of wine. Conversation flows freely at the Blue Pig, and the new winter menu has been designed around how we tend to socialise at this time of year. Using only best local produce, stand out dishes include sticky cider braised pig cheeks, Tandoori pork fillet, 8oz rump steak and a Tequila (!) battered fish with smoked chipotle flavour chips. We like the sound of this one. Nodding to the fact that many people will be dining in groups, the menu including sharing options such as pigs cheek terrine with chutneys and a seafood smorgasbord as well as ‘The Big Cheese’ (board, with crackers, bread, and more). Burgers are a draw. New options include a veal and Parma ham burger (The Italian Job) and a chipotle spiked pork and Manchego cheese burger (The Messy Mexican) which join old favourites such as The Blue Pig Burger and a vegan-friendly lemon thyme crumbed Portobello mushroom. Obviously, being a laid back kinda place, Sunday roast is a thing. Options include slow roast, garlic studded lamb, pork shoulder with roast apples and vegetarian, with all the festive trimmings. Winter cocktails and a reasonable wine list complete the picture.
