At this time of year we’re all on the hunt for a filling feast of the finest food and drink to warm the cold/depressing/rainy (etc) Manchester days and nights. Panic not, as Eventbrite has a smorgasbord of mouthwatering events for the beginning of 2016, once your mince pies have been digested.

Wine tasting and making courses
We start with a pair of corking events set on educating attendees about the nuances of fermented grapes. First up, Unearthed Manchester select 14 wines to swill and sup, topping up both amateurs’ and experts’ knowledge on themes from international varieties to spotting corked bottles. The wild at heart may prefer local foraging expert Jesper Lauder’s wine making session, which will get you kitted out and clued up on the long road to fine wine.
Sat 9 Jan, The Midland Hotel, Peter Street, Manchester, M60 2DS, £69, www.eventbrite.co.uk
Sat 23 Jan, Chorlton (specific location details on booking), 1-5pm, £65, www.eventbrite.co.uk

Port Street Beer School
Following Manchester City Council’s announcement that they’ll be getting in on the beer festival trend by producing an extended Beer Week (10-19 Jun) in 2016, you’d be well-advised to prepare your palate to pick between thick chocolate malts and light hoppy IPAs. Fortunate, then, that Port Street Beer House is serving up this lesson in the global craft.
Sun 10 Jan or Tue 12 Jan, Port Street Beer House, 39-41 Port Street, Manchester, M1 2EQ, 1-3pm (10 Jan) or 7.30-9.30pm (12 Jan), £19.40, www.eventbrite.co.uk

Winter wild food forage
If you watch as woodland wildlife hibernate or scavenge for scraps across the wintry landscape, it may seem like scant pickings on nature’s shop floor. Again, Jesper Lauder begs to differ, pledging to illuminate the roots leaves a fungi available to those on the right track. It’s a family-friendly day out serving as a reminder of the hidden gems of the natural world a mere stone’s throw from the city.
Sun 31 Jan, Fletcher Moss Park, Didsbury, Manchester, 11am-3pm, £10-20, www.eventbrite.co.uk
