This week’s food update for Manchester includes a bottomless brunch at Mad Men themed bar The Pen and Pencil and the news that chef-patron of Leeds’ Michelin-starred Man Behind the Curtain, Michael O’Hare is taking on a key food role at GG Hospitality, which includes Hotel Football. Meanwhile, Manchester House has been awarded four AA Rosettes and healthy eating guru, Ella Woodward, is coming to the Lowry.

Pen and Pencil launches bottomless brunch
Never quite satisfied by brunch? Not any more as The Pen and Pencil bring you there incredible bottomless brunch. Held between on the last Saturday of every month these are a real opportunity to gorge yourself for just £30. Eggs Florentine, Benedict, grilled cheese sandwiches, pancake stacks, corned beef hash, steak and eggs are all on offer and the best bit is you don’t even have to choose. The drinks are just as free-flowing and include classic cocktails like Bloody Marys and Mimosas, beer or even Prosecco. But beware, it’s first come, first served unless you book in advance. With this trend already a hit down in London, other places in Manchester will no doubt be hot on their heels.

Michael O’Hare takes on creative director role at Hotel Football and GG Hospitality
Manchester is in for a treat after Michelin-starred maverick Michael O’Hare was appointed Creative Director of GG Hospitality, taking over the reins of the catering side of Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs owned Hotel Football. The charismatic chef will maintain control of his restaurant, The Man Behind The Curtain in Leeds but will also take charge at Cafe Football, the upcoming Stock hotel on Norfolk Street and another potential venue within the £200m St Michael’s redevelopment of Bootle Street Police Station. O’Hare’s cooking is nothing but bold: expect a shake up at Football towers as former creative director, Michael Wignall, moves on to Gidleigh Park.

Ella Woodward comes to the Lowry
Health food blogger Ella Woodward will be hitting Salford to discuss and sign copies of her second book, Deliciously Ella Every Day. The new book promotes the vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free diet she believes helped her recover from postural tachycardia syndrome and is the follow-up to Deliciously Ella, which became the fastest-selling debut cookbook of all time last year. The new book focuses on using natural ingredients, rather than deprivation, to nurture your body and embrace a positive, healthy way of life.

Manchester House (pictured) wins 4 AA Rosettes, joining the French’s rating 
Living Venture’s contemporary British restaurant, Manchester House under the guidance of head chef Aiden Byrne has won another AA Rosette at an award ceremony on Monday 11 January 2016, bringing the total awarded to Manchester House by the AA Restaurant Guide up to four. The French at the Midland already holds this award, while other new winners in the four rosette category include The Black Swan at Oldstead in Yorkshire and the Five Fields in London. Another restaurant that we particularly rate, the fearless Northern European bistro,  Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside, with chef-patron James Cross at the helm has been awarded 3 AA Rosettes.
