Animal Collective at The Ritz

After a decade and a half of creating music together, the trio that are Animal Collective (Josh “Deakin” Dibb wasn’t involved this time, so this album mirrors the same setup as for Merriweather Post Pavilion) have taken a different approach to making their 10th LP, Painting With (out 19th Feb). The pioneering experimental psychedelic band typically gauge reactions for new songs live before hitting the studio, but no one has heard any part of Painting With in the flesh yet. They’ve taken inspiration from the succinct and direct nature of Ramones tracks, and never settling on a style they’ve visited before; the results of Painting With are short, immediate songs served up with a shot of adrenaline.
