Xtra Factor’s Matt Richardson has been signed up to host a night of more miming than a stroll along Las Ramblas. Much maligned when used on Top of the Pops performances back in the day, mouthing lyrics to pop songs has seen something of a reinvention in the past year or so, helped in no small amount by Beyoncé’s guest appearance on Channing Tatum’s mimed rendition of her song as part of the US TV series. For this one-off Manchester event, which has been organised by Event Management BSc students at MMU, The Union are providing the incentive of £100 in prize money for the winning entrant, who’ll need to convince an audience in around 60 seconds that they deserve to wear the inaugural crown. Whether as a solo, duet or group act, you can sign up by emailing your song and artist selections to Infinity.Events.MCR@gmail.com.
Mon 7 Mar, The Union, Manchester Metropolitan University, 21 Higher Cambridge Street, Manchester, M15 6AD, 7-9pm, £5 adv (£6 on the door), www.fatsoma.com
