Manchester’s very first Women In Media Conference will be taking early next month, at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation. The media world is hugely male-dominated, and the aim of the three-day Con is to celebrate women who have found success in the industry, and to inspire the next generation aiming for a career in the sector. The event is hosted by the student media branch of Manchester University’s Students’ Union, and is open to everyone: Male and female, student and working stiff, alike. Appearing will be an impressive roster of speakers from TV, radio, PR, and print media. Among them will be: Helen Pidd, North of England Editor of the Guardian; Rebecca Meehan, the presenter of BBC North West Tonight; and Olivia Jones from the Huffington Post. There will be workshops and panel debates with themes such as: Is this what a feminist looks like?, and Feminism and the fashion industry. Both single-day and weekend passes are available.
Fri 4 Mar – Sun 6 Mar, The International Anthony Burgess Foundation, 3 Cambridge Street, Manchester M1 5BY, Tel: 0161 275 2989, £5 (day) – £11 (weekend), www.womeninmediacon.co.uk
