Manchester food and drink news includes a new tapas place, Porta, from the team behind Joseph Benjamin for Altrincham, a guest chef spot for The Lord Clyde’s chef-patron, Ernst van Zyl, at The Lowry, FAD food festival in Levenshulme and a Chinese dumpling supper club from Heart and Parcel.

Porta Altrincham tapas bar to open in September 2016
Joe and Ben Wright, the brothers behind Chester’s Michelin Bib Gourmand-rated Joseph Benjamin restaurant, have confirmed that they are to open a new branch of their tapas bar, Porta, in Altrincham later this year. The bijou bar in Chester serves a Spanish-leaning menu of small plates that could include croquetas and patatas bravas – only perfectly pulled off – see pic from their existing outlet in Chester. While it’s true that central Manchester is enjoying an upmarket tapas boom (look out for a review of Deansgate newcomer Tapeo and Wine soon), Altrincham is less well served. Plus the relaxed style of service and simple wine list, which might include two reds, two whites, one rosado and one cava should make this a go-to option any night of the week. (RA)
Opening Sep 2016, Porta, 50 Greenwood Street, Altrincham, WA14 1RZ, www.portatapas.co.uk

Dumplings, darling: Heart & Parcel’s next supper club
Heart and Parcel are back with their next supper club. This time, they are bringing tastes of the Far East to our palates. The evenings are always centred around homemade food parcels, usually in the form of Polish dumplings. This time, expect an array of Chinese dumplings, fresh cooking, with a mini dumpling folding workshop as well. There are vegetarian options available, guests are invited to bring their own booze and all money raised will be used to fund the sterling projects they run, working with women from migrant communities. Top stuff.
