Italian author Diego Marani comes to the International Anthony Burgess Foundation this week as part of the Reading Europe tour, a tour devised by a group of independent publishers to present the literary case for the UK remaining in Europe, and accompanied with a new library of 49 books from around the continent. To do so, they’ve drawn on a wealth of international talent as well as British authors, and here Marani will be joined by a number of local writers. Also, all 49 books will be available for purchase on the evening.

Gein’s Family Giftshop Recording at Robert Powell Theatre
Gein’s Family Giftshop are arguably the jewel in Manchester’s comedy crown: A dark, interesting sketch group who are already making waves, particularly with their three-episode radio series from last year. This year they’re back and recording a new radio series at Salford University’s Robert Powell Theatre, and you’re invited to provide the laughter track. Based on the quality of their previous work, this is not to be missed. If you’re looking to attend, go ahead and book through Eventbrite, and make sure you arrive on time: Only earlycomers are guaranteed a seat.

Making Waves at Trof
Trof’s bi-monthly Making Waves nights bring together the cream of the local music scene, and this instalment is no exception. On the bill for this one are blues musicians Leo James Conroy and Jon Kenzie along with traditional songstress and Dublin native Shauna Mackin. As always, the night’s presided over by Manchester group Glass Tides, who recommend arriving early to get a good seat.

Nadiya Hussain at Lowry Outlet (pictured)
This weekend, the Lowry Outlet mall in MediaCity presents its annual food festival, with a whole host of showcases, stalls and demonstrations. One such demonstration is from last year’s Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain, who’ll be firing up her Aga live onstage and whipping up some fine fierce recipes. There’s three sessions running in a marquee between the mall and the Lowry theatre, booking in advance is required and getting there early is recommended if you want to be guaranteed a seat.
