Iraqi documentary photographer and video journalist Mushtaq Abbas (pictured left) will be coming to the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA) to deliver a talk organised by the Redeye Photography Network, entitled ‘When Photojournalism Forces you to Flee’. In early September 2015, Mushtaq fled Iraq following a report published by Reuters, the international news agency he worked for, which claimed that some members of the local Popular Mobilisation against Daesh had carried out looting and bombings during the liberation of Tikrit. Despite not being associated with this report, Mushtaq and his family received threats, leading him to seek asylum in the UK, where he’s recently gained refugee status and where he hopes to bring his wife and his three children. This will be an hour-long talk followed by a Q&A session.
Tue 13 Sep, Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art, Market Buildings, 13 Thomas Street, Manchester, M4 1EU, 6.30pm – 8pm, FREE (open for donations), www.redeye.org.uk
