New Orleans jazz maestro Terence Blanchard is set to lead a Brighter Sound learning residency programme this September, followed by a Manchester date on the subsequent tour. Aside from being raised in the spiritual home of jazz, Blanchard’s mantelpiece is filled with Grammys – and his unparalleled contribution to the jazz recording industry at Columbia, Sony and now Blue Note give him a wealth of creative experience to pass onto budding musicians of the future. Past Brighter Sound residencies have seen week-long tuition and mentorship by the like of Snarky Puppy, Beth Orton and DJ Yoda, all culminating in a breathtaking show at Band on the Wall. But the difference with this newly devised Jazz Director programme is that Blanchard will lead the band on a short tour, also honing their live performance skills in Warrington, Bradford and Kendal on consecutive nights.
