Touareg legends Tinariwen are to include Manchester’s Band on the Wall as one of only four UK dates on their November tour of Europe. Positioned for a long time at the forefront of Malian blues exports, the south Saharan natives will be familiar to many for their blends of hypnotic grooves and delicious high-end fretwork. Despite forming in Algeria as long ago as 1979 and continuing in the face of regular political upheaval in their homeland, their international fame is only relatively recent, but was well established by 2012, when they received a Grammy for their fifth album, Tassili. They have also been paired with folk band Tunng as part of BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction show, a collaboration which saw a short tour in 2009.
