Nous Issue 7 Launch at Fuel Café Bar
Local literary zine Nous have put out their seventh edition recently, and this weekend its creators are celebrating by throwing this launch party at Fuel in Withington. The zine’s authors will be coming along to read from the new issue, which is themed around Work, and a temporary photography and illustration exhibition caps off the evening nicely. You’ll also be able to pick up copies of Nous #7 on the night, as well as prints of Benedikt Luft’s cover art.

Manchester Waterside Festival (pictured)
Manchester’s waterways are hosting this low-key festival of art and technology this weekend. Locks 87, 89 and 92 on the Rochdale Canal are acting as flashpoints for a variety of family-friendly nautical activities, including the opportunity to build underwater robots, to explore the watery depths using a virtual reality headset and of course, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to muck about on a boat.

Living Memories at Elizabeth Gaskell House
This short-run exhibition at Elizabeth Gaskell House only lasts for the weekend, but it packs a real punch: Centred around the history of the house itself, the exhibition charts its tale from the Victorian era to the present day, through the stories of people who lived and worked in the area. We Shall Overcome on The Streets
This is a particularly interesting event on Sunday – part gig and part walking tour. Organised by Loiterers’ Resistance Movement – a non-profit group of psychogeographers who aim to get us all reengaged with the city around us – this walk takes you all around the city in a unique, personal and political exploration of Manchester. Joining them is the People’s History Museum’s songwriter-in-residence Quiet Loner, who’ll be providing musical accompaniment to complement and enhance the LRM’s tales of the city. The tour starts from outside The People’s History Museum – prompt arrival is recommended if you don’t want to be left behind.
