Step forward then Ahir Shah who is fighting the good fight for solid political discourse whilst also being brilliantly funny. On the cusp of much bigger things Shah is always searingly ‘on point’ as he looks on the current political climate and finds it not at all to his tastes.

Trapdoor comedy club celebrates its second birthday with top headline act Pete Johansson. The Canadian has been making great waves in the UK ever since we was nominated for best newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009, which he followed up one year later with a Best Breakthrough award from Chortle. Master of ceremonies Tony Basnett always invokes a party atmosphere regardless of the time of year so this is sure to be one heck of a celebration.

Simon Munnery | Gorilla | Sat 15 Oct | 8pm | £12
Munnery’s latest offering ‘Standing Still’ is described by the comedian as ‘An opening to die for, seven wry observations, a tone poem, four fresh skits and two new commandments’. Though if you ever thought you could get an idea of what was going on in the convention defying stand up’s mind before witnessing one of his shows then you’ve clearly never experienced one before. Flying in the face of ‘the norm’ Munnery is as unique a comic as you are likely to find. Go see him as your current favourite or to find your future favourite.

Hans Teeuwen | The Lowry | Sun 16 Oct | 8pm | £24 – £27
Some times when you see a name you’re not overly familiar with you might still take a chance. You might not even know how to pronounce Hans Teeuwen but you should definitely take the punt on this wonderful absurdist lauded by the likes of The Guardian, Time Out and even ‘King of Comedy Taste’ Stewart Lee. As original and provocative as you are going to get from a night watching comedy Teeuwen is worth the risk. You’ll be telling your friends about him, you just might not get his name right when you do.
