The Unabombers top off a year which saw them cement their reputation as world-class DJs and restaurateurs with the launch of the Refuge bar and restaurant at The Palace Hotel by returning to their subterranean clubbing origins. Mantra warehouse in Ancoats is the new home for their annual End of Year Riot. Each area of the venue celebrates an era in the history of the Electriks. Resurrecting the sweaty chaotic spirit of The Roadhouse, one of Manchester’s best-kept secrets, former Eyes Down resident and Fat City Records counter stalwart Jon-K plays with Move D , plus Red Rack ‘Em who produced one of the tunes of 2016. Representing the Electric Elephant beach festival, Balearic Mike and Kelvin Andrews play alongside one of the Chair crowd’s all-time favourite guests, Maurice Fulton. Affiliated in the 1990s to East Coast sound of labels like Basement Boys, Fulton’s uniquely wonky take on house has brought remixes for Roisin Murphy, Hot Chip and The Rapture. His own production work for the likes DFA, Permanent Vacation and Warp has produced numerous tried-and-tested basement soul classics. The Music Box room promises a classic camo-net party courtesy of the Unabombers, Justin Crawford and Luke Cowdrey themselves alongside Sheffield’s Chris Duckenfield AND a secret special guest. This one always, always sells out – so why not grab a ticket now?
