Barbara Brown Exhibition at The Whitworth
The Whitworth launches its latest exhibition this weekend, displaying the work of iconic textile designer Barbara Brown, whose print designs dominated the households of 1960s and 1970s Britain. Club Big at HOME (pictured)
John Hyatt’s Rock Art has been running at HOME for the past month, and at the centre of the exhibition is Club Big, a pop-up music venue. This Friday, Club Big will be springing to life, as it hosts this interesting music gig. Pianist Nancy Elizabeth heads up the bill with a rare live performance, accompanied by the choral vocalists that flesh out her sound. Cello-and-loop-pedal enthusiast Elizabeth Preston also makes an appearance on the night, and visuals will be provided by AV performer and collaborative artist SukhailK. As always, the night is held together by Hyatt himself.

Body Experience 2017 at Manchester Museum
The University of Manchester’s Biology boffins will be taking over the entirety of the Manchester Museum for a day of familly-friendly events all about the human body. This is real treat for kids with strong stomachs, as they learn about lactation, how mucus is produced, and how testing urine can teach us about kidney function. There’s even the opportunity to hold a real heary in your hands – presumably not a human heart, although it’s not ruled out in any of the promotional literature.

Under The Green at The Green
Another family event is taking place in Worsley this Sunday. Under The Green is an archaeology event, where little’uns can get their hands dirty excavating the history underneath this beautiful green space. Experts from The University of Salford will be on hand to talk through the advanced sensory equipment used by modern archaeologists, and there’s even more fun to be had at the Muddy Fingers Fête – complete with spinning wheel and a ‘Tombola of Time’ – and the Institure of Ingenius Invention, where young engineers can learn about the mechanical marvels that powered industrial Salford.
