There simply isn’t enough exposure for soulful electronic music on the radio or in the clubs. Populism dictates that some people hear of some artists some of the time but rarely dig deeper themselves, an irony in an age where brand new music from unheard of artists is a click away. Left + Right has been in the works a while as a counter to this, and is ready to unleash its debut night over at the suitably murky Whiskey Jar basement. Expect to hear beats, hip hop, future soul and beyond from leftfield breakouts and their contemporaries including Kaytranada, Anderson Paak, Lakim, Chance The Rapper, Tall Black Guy and a whole sackful more.
Fri 12 May, The Whiskey Jar, 14 Tariff Street, Manchester, M1 2FF. Tel: 0161 237 5686, 11pm-4am, £3 www.skiddle.com
