Dance along: Make a Scene’s interactive screening of Hairspray at Texture Mcr

Next month, the bar and event space Texture will be hosting events in support of gay rights. There will be two screenings of the John Waters classic ‘Hairspray’. The film is set in the 1960s, and centres on an overweight teenage girl who becomes a dancer on TV. The twist is that these screenings are interactive: you can dance along to the music in a faithful recreation of one of the movie’s sets. If that’s not enough, you can sing karaoke to songs from the 2007 musical version of the film. Also, stylists will be on hand to primp your beehive hairdo, and a DJ will be playing sixties dance hits. The movie has an underlying theme of tolerance which why it was chosen to support the LGBT Liberty Festival, which takes place the same weekend. On the night, the organisers will be raising money for the people affected by the Orlando Pulse tragedy.
