Sarah Kendall and Caroline Mabey | The Pub/Zoo | Tue 27 Jun | 7.30pm | £5/3
As the countdown to the Edinburgh Fringe starts in earnest with just a month until August the previews come thick and fast with five great comedians testing the waters of their new work this week. First up it’s the two-time nominee for best Edinburgh show Sarah Kendall who has new show ‘One Seventeen’ for your delectation at XS Malarkey. Performing alongside her is Caroline Mabey, an oddball genius with surreal echoes of the likes of Harry Hill and Vic Reeves. At £2.50 a preview (£1.50 for members) it’s a show you can’t afford to miss.

The Frog and Bucket welcomes back to of its favourite acts for some Edinburgh Preview action of their own as the sassified Luisa Omielan and Canadian firebrand Jon Hastings present a double header of their new hour shows. The woman who brought you the uplifting worldwide smash ‘What Would Beyonce Do?’ is back to extoll on what’s best for her tongue in cheek bitches when it comes the political world. Hastings meanwhile will be spinning yarns about love, veganism and being the funniest white man in Canada to give you a midweek boost of hilarity.

Sophie Willan (pictured) | Contact | Wed 28 Jun – Sat 1 Jul | 8pm | £13/7
Comedians spend the best part of the summer scheduling in various dates across the country to prepare for the Fringe but Sophie Willan seems to have it all figured out by booking a four night run in her adopted home town at the Contact theatre with new show Branded. After a smash hit debut with the story of her early life bouncing around state care she follows that up with another brutally honest and no doubt gut achingly funny show about being labeled by others. A Chorlte best newcomer nominee make sure you catch Willan at one of these dates before she wows Edinburgh all over again.
