Malawian-born, London-based artist and writer Samson Kambalu co-curates this new show at Manchester’s contemporary Castlefield Gallery. Inspired by his father’s late night drunken lectures on Freud and Nietzsche, Kambalu developed his own philosophical concept of called Holyballism, inspired by inquiry, criticism and dissent (as detailed in his book, The Jive Talker), and, in a similar vein, the show seeks to explore and subvert traditional modes of production. Tattoo City: The First Three shares its title with the curator’s current book. Alongside Kambalu’s own work the show includes work by German sculptor and performance artist Joseph Beuys and Anglo-Nordic painter Sigrid Holmwood.
