Fin Taylor & Danny McLoughlin (pictured)| Mon 31 Jul | Gullivers | 7.30pm | £5
We’ve finally reached the end of Edinburgh preview season: The two month period where comedians tour and hone rough versions of the show they’re taking up to the Edinburgh Fringe. You can catch this last-minute double bill of Fin Taylor and Danny McLoughlin on Monday at Gullivers, before they head up North for August. Taylor’s show Lefty Tighty Righty Loosey is the follow up to his wildly successful 2016 show Whitey McWhiteface, and takes a sidewards look at left-wing orthodoxies. McLoughlin’s show 01/02 is a charming autobiographical show about the comic’s late teens.

Tiff Stevenson | Tue 1 Aug | Comedy Store | 7pm | £5
Another Edinburgh preview, this time at vaunted Manchester comedy institution XS Malarkey, which relocates to the Comedy Store for this month only. Comedian Tiff Stevenson – known for appearances on Mock the Week and The Office – previews her latest show Bombshell, which takes aim at all the bullshit this world throws at women. She’s accompanied on the night by newer acts Patrick Young and Adam Tumber, as well as the excellent Callum Scott.

Russell Brand | Tue 1 Aug & Wed 2 Aug | The Lowry | 8pm | £28.50
Sex haver turned spiritual guru turned political activist Russell Brand returns to The Lowry for his latest show Re:Birth. The show covers many of the themes of his previous work – sex, religion, politics – all presented with a manic, spindly energy that’s warmed so many to him over the years. Since his last tour, he’s also become a father, so you can expect plenty of ‘dad’ material in there too. Remaining ticket stocks are running low for these two shows, so get in there while you still can.
