Jesca Hoop at Selfridges Trafford Centre (pictured)
Californian singer-songwriter Jesca Hoop comes to Trafford’s shiniest department store this Friday for an exclusive live set, and you can be in the audience. Hoop – a former protegé of Tom Waits – produces work that is genre-spanning, encompassing folk, jazz and experimental sounds, all of which she will be bringing to the lower level menswear section. This gig isn’t technically free to get in, as tickets are priced at ten pounds. However, entry does include free drinks and tickets can be redeemed against any purchase made in store – so you can get a tenner off that cardigan you’ve been eyeing up.
Fri 8 Sep, Selfridges, intu Trafford Centre, 60 Regent Crescent, Trafford Park, M17 8DA. 7.30pm – 8.30pm, www.eventbrite.co.uk
The Flipside Club Night at Fallow Café
One of our club picks for this week, The Flipside is monthly soul night running upstairs at Fallowfield’s Fallow Café. It’s run by soul aficionados and hardcore crate diggers, playing only the slowest, smoothest sweet soul, deep soul and crossover. Every month features sets from the Flipside residents, as well as a special guest, which for this month’s instalment is midlands DJ Eddie Hubbard.
Fri 8 Sep, Fallow Café, 2A Landcross Road, Manchester, M14 6NA. 9pm – late.
Hayes & Y at The Castle
You can catch this free gig from international indie group Hayes & Y at The Castle Hotel on Oldham Street. Made up of members from Bulgaria and Finland, the band relocated to Manchester a few years ago and have been perfecting their brand of upbeat indie pop rock ever since, putting out their latest single Let Me In in February of this year. Supporting them on the night is Italian garage rockers Basse.
Sat 9 Sep, The Castle Hotel, 66 Oldham Street, Manchester, M4 1LE. 9pm -12am, www.facebook.com
Levenshulme Jumble Trail
On Sunday afternoon you can catch the latest jumble trail in Levenshulme. What is a jumble trail? Well it’s an area-wide jumble sale that snakes through the streets and down the ginnels and back alleys. You can expect a lot of the same fare you might find in your local car boot – cakes, clothes and bric-á-brac – as you weave through the streets of Levy. These jumble trails are often immensely popular, so get down early before the best stuff vanishes.
Sun 10 Sep, Levenshulme, Manchester, M19 3PJ. 11am – 5pm, www.facebook.com
