Solomon’s Second Birthday
Withington bar Solomon Grundy’s was a local institution for years, loved by students and locals alike, who’d criss-cross Wilmslow Road every weekend between the bar whatever gig was playing at Fuel opposite. Many were heartbroken when it closed its doors, but fortunately it opened up again not long after – this time under the name Solomon’s – and it’s been going strong ever since, celebrating its second birthday this weekend. They’re promising a free party with cake, drink deals and beer pong, accompanied by a roster of guest DJs. It’s a great opportunity to check out this bar if you haven’t already, or to  relive the summer of 2013 if that’s your bag.
Sat 16 Sep, Solomon’s, 447-449 Wilmslow Road, Withington, Manchester, M20 4AN. 8pm – 2am, www.facebook.com

Last Chance to See PISIN Exhibition at Great Northern Tower (pictured)
P ISIN – that’s a capital P and capital ISIN – is a collaborative art show that’s been running at Castlefield Gallery’s new art space since the start of the month. PISIN is the name given to the four-strong artist collective behind the show: Formed at Manchester School of Art they come together to produce paintings that have been displayed up and down the country, and this is something of a homecoming show. They’re packing up on Sunday, so this really is your last chance to catch this PISIN-good exhibition. Viewing is by appointment only, so you’ll have to get in touch if you want to have a nosey.
Sun 17 Sep, Unit 3, Great Northern Tower, Watson Street, Manchester, M3 4EE. 1pm – 6pm, www.pisin.uk

Ghost Stories at Mort Subite Altrincham
Mort Subite, based in Altrincham, has a very pretty ghoulish name for a pub: It literally translates as ‘sudden death’. So it’s apt that this Sunday it will pay host to this free ghost story event, where the venue’s cellar – which formerly functioned as the local hospital morgue – will be transformed into a spooky storytelling setting. The event is led by artist Teresa Wilson, best known for her haunting puppet and doll creations, with the storytelling being performed by an as-yet-unannounced spoken word performer. It’s technically free to attend, but booking ahead is suggested and carries a £5.90 price tag.
Sun 17 Sep, Mort Subite, 28-32 Greenwood Street, Altrincham, WA14 1RZ. 8pm, www.hiddenaltrincham.co.uk
