Manchester comedy picks ft. Eleanor Tiernan, Rob Auton and Adam Hess

XS Malarkey continue their hot streak of top booking with one of Ireland’s best newcomers Eleanor Tiernan. Also seen on BBC’s One Night Stand Tiernan brings an acerbic wit and a great deal of misanthropic charm. Her heralding as ‘a female Dylan Moran’ may be somewhat lazy but it doesn’t make it any less accurate. Support comes from local talent Mark Grimshaw and Ros Ballinger.

For something a little more far out (and by far out, we mean in space) for your Tuesday night’s entertainment might we suggest Jack Evans sideways look at a panel show in his ‘Brexit in Space’ Control Panel live show. The first installment of the new year sees competitors Hannah Platt, Tom King and David Stanier debate the fate of the alien ‘the Gruzzamuff’ and whether or not it will be allowed asylum on an increasingly unforgiving Earth.

Rob Auton | Sat 17 Feb | The Lowry | 8pm | £12/10
Rob Auton has so far based his shows on water, the colour yellow, the sky and the human face but for none of those shows did he have to transform his own appearance to any great extent. So for the sheer will power to have not shaved or trimmed for over year since he conceived of ‘The Hair Show’ he deserves your attention alone. His beautiful, naïve look at the human condition make him a unique performer and his dedication to creating laughs from the subjects we take for granted make him an absolute joy to behold.

Adam Hess and Glenn Moore | Sun 18 Feb | The Frog & Bucket | 7.30pm | £12
Two of the UK’s finest young comics Adam Hess and Glenn Moore are bringing their Edinburgh shows to the Frog for a Sunday night double bill that’ll hopefully make you forget all about work the next morning. Nominated for best newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe back in 2015, Hess’ latest offering ‘Cactus’ is his most complete show to date touching on the neurotic tendencies of the twenty-something odd ball. Glenn Moore 2017 had arguably the greatest title of that year’s festival (or any year for that matter) with ‘Glenn Moore: The Very Best of Belinda Carlisle’. As well as his adoration for 80s pop icons he also boasts a razor sharp wit and some of the best joke craft you’ll see from a modern comedian.
