Everyone’s favourite cafe in the park – Longford Park cafe – reopens this weekend after a winter break with a new shorter name, Longford, a new menu and more seating indoors. As well as 20 more seats, expect more freshly baked pastries, cakes, hot cross buns, kids meals, hot soups, toasties as well as a full-on, gourmet brunch and lunch menu, including eggs with smashed avocado, and hand-cured bacon on homemade sourdough, pictured. The cafe will share its menu with sister premises, Blanchflower, in Altrincham, where everything is, as far as possible, is made from scratch on site. Cakes remain a big deal too: their salted caramel slice is something people travel miles for, as is their shortbread, chocolate-studded biscuit for kids. A welcome return.

Now open: Longford (formerly Longford Park Cafe), Longford Park, Edge Lane, Stretford, Manchester M32 8PX, opening times vary, @longfordcafe
