It’s 30 years since the introduction of ‘Section 28’ – legislation which prohibited the ‘promotion of homosexuality’ in schools and other institutions under local authority rule. The law was met with mass protests and lobbying from the gay community. To celebrate these acts of political defiance, Staying Out is hosting a series of music nights around the UK, and the tour comes to Partisan Collective in the Green Quarter this Saturday. Appearing will be Beep – LGBT folks with music and environments for dance, who have developed a live act specifically for the tour. Also appearing will be Good Afternoon // MCR, a self-styled ‘ramshackle disco’. They have been spinning Donna Summer records in boozers, boats and on roof terraces since 2008. There is a suggested donation of £5, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. All profits will go to The Proud Trust, an organisation which supports gay youth in the North.

Sat 7 Apr, Partisan Collective, 19 Cheetham Hill Road, Manchester, M4 4FY, Tel: 0161 278 6559, 8pm – 12am, £5 (suggested donation), www.facebook.com
