Returning for a remarkable 23rd outing, manchester jazz festival has announced its 2018 programme, featuring both local and international talent. Taking over Albert Square for eight days in July, mjf offers adventurous live music in both its Salon Perdu Spiegeltent hub and other venues around the city – including Band on the Wall, Matt & Phreds, Night & Day Cafe, St Ann’s Church, The Midland and the RNCM. Highlights from its 90+ events include Arun Ghosh (pictured, Sat 21, 8pm, £15 adv), Hackney Colliery Band (Sat 28, 8pm, £18 adv) and a new festival commission by harpist and singer Esther Swift (Thu 26, 8pm, £15 adv) – all in the Salon Perdu. With a further ‘mjf introduces’ strand showcasing young local talent, plus a series of nine free shows of northern jazz talent, it promises to be the most adventurous jazz festival in Europe.
