Film preview: ‘Nae Pasaran!’ – Documentary about British workers who defied Pinochet

This month is the 45th anniversary of the Chilean coup which brought the dictator Augusto Pinochet to power. To commemorate this event there’s a new documentary film, which has its English preview screening next Monday at Manchester Central, celebrating the people in Britain who helped defy Pinochet’s regime. ‘Nae Pasaran!’ focuses on Scottish factory workers who, in 1974, refused to repair jet engines from the Chilean Air Force. Four years later, the engines mysteriously disappeared, thereby ending this long-running act of solidarity. The workers never found out the scale of the impact they had until the making of this film. The screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion with director Felipe Bustos Sierra, Unite’s General Secretary Len McCluskey, and some of the workers who took part in the protest.
