This week sees news of openings in the south of Manchester, posh places coming to Spinningfields, and the potential of a restaurant leaving the suburbs and heading to the city centre.

Modern Portuguese restaurant Canto to open in Ancoats
Simon Shaw, the man behind the delectable tapas of El Gato Negro, is heading further West to bring modern Portuguese fair to Manchester with new restaurant Canto. Occupying a prime position in Cutting Room Square in Ancoats Canto will offer a broad selection of seasonal small plates, or petiscos as tapas is known in Portugal, underpinned by larger dishes to be enjoyed on their own or shared. Another winner we can’t wait to try.

New Coffee Shop B’Spoke in Heaton Chapel
With a focus on providing ethical coffee and getting people cycling and walking, B’Spoke Coffee is opening up near Heaton Chapel train station on September 13th with a launch party. Working with Friends of Heaton Chapel Station, B’Spoke aim to promote the use of the station and provide breakfast bits to commuters from its opening at 6.30am.

The Ivy Coming To Spinningfields
The much anticipated launch of The Ivy in Manchester is getting closer, with a date still to be announced we can expect to see the new restaurant sometime in November. Offering food all day, from breakfast to supper, The Ivy seems set to be a beacon in the centre of Manchester’s shining Spinningfields.

Allotment to head into town?
Rumours are abound that one of the jewels of Stockport’s food renaissance is set to up sticks and bring its fine dining vegan food to Manchester city centre. No substantial comments on whether this will mean that the Stockport branch closes or whether this is a second spot, but either way this will be Manchester’s gain.

New Parisian Bar ‘The Talleyrand’ for Levenshulme
Celebrating Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand, the controversial French diplomat who supposedly lived in Levenshulme, this new bar opposite the Levenshulme Antiques Market has a nod to the French with its exposed wood and salon stylings.

Espresso Martini Pop-Up in Spinningfields
For two weeks in October, Cafe Belvedere will be taking over the space previously used by Finca Cuban Street Food, for an espresso martini pop up. Opening on October 2nd, the Cafe will offer coffees during the day, before making them boozy and throwing them into a martini glass in the evening.

Real Junk Food Crowdfunder
Real Junk Food may have closed on Oxford Road, but the folks behind it are still going strong. Launched last week, you can contribute to the team’s latest crowdfunder which aims to get their social enterprise catering off the ground. Continuing the aims of reducing waste, as well as making good food available to all, they aim to raise £50,000 with 21 days to go.
