Sentinel: immersive performance & Guardian-hosted climate change debate at Waterside

As part of Manchester Science Festival, there’s special, immersive event at Waterside in Sale in October. Sentinel uses original video content, music, and laser lighting to show the present and future effects of global warming. The visuals, which were created by the award-winning artist Valentina D’efilippo, were inspired by real climate and migrant data. They are accompanied by a soundtrack of analogue synths and electro-rhythms mixed with live vocals. Prior to the performance, leading scientists discuss the show’s themes, exploring climate change, migration, and their wider impact on human evolution. Panel members include bio-ethicist Dr Sarah Chan from the University of Edinburgh; and Dr Joanne Pennock, an Immunologist from Manchester University. The discussion is hosted by the Guardian’s North of England correspondent, Nazia Parveen, and includes followed by a question and answer session.
