What better way to cosy up ready for Christmas than with a ghoulish story or two? Scaring each other silly in the lead up to Christmas is a tradition many of us won’t even be aware of, what with all the shopping to do and markets to visit, but a group of Manchester story tellers with a head for the supernatural are ready to bring it back (from beyond the grave) in the events room of one of Manchester’s most historic public houses. Recalling the nights when Victorian families would gather around the hearth to retell their most fear-inducing tales, all are welcome to come and listen to stories and even tell their own: email dxb@comic.com (or jump onboard the Facebook group) if this takes your fancy. Any money raised by the ghostly raffle on the evening will go directly to buying goods for some of the city’s homeless.

Wed 5 Dec, The Briton’s Protection Pub, 50 Great Bridgewater Street, M1 5LE, Tel: 0161 236 5895, 8pm-11pm, free entry, www.facebook.com
