Art exhibition: (Picasso’s) Guernica Remakings at Working Class Movement Library

This public exhibition at the Working Class Movement Library explores the longevity of Pablo Picasso’s iconic 1937 painting Guernica through a series of 21st Century reworkings by artists across the world. The free show opens with a launch night on Thursday 31 January at 6pm – everyone is invited. Curator of the exhibition, Dr Nicola Ashmore, Senior Lecturer in History of Art and Design at the University of Brighton, will give a brief introduction to the context and considerations behind the project – including the works’ roles as an artistic act of political defiance. Nicola is also giving a free illustrated talk Nicola on Wednesday 13 March at 2pm where she will speak about Guernica and it’s global, ongoing form of political action, and the power of this art to traverse geographical boundaries and socio-political causes.
