Popping into Manchester Art Gallery at the weekend, we noticed some strange goings on. Mossy fronds were winding their way around the railings outside as a huge, forest-like garden grew across and around the front porch. As it happens, this transformation is in honour of the opening night of Raqib Shaw’s new show. Just in time for Valentines night (see our guide for more ideas) you can wander through the sumptuous spaces of this historic venue supping champagne and generally taking in the damp and juicy garden vibes ahead of the artist’s main opening from Friday. Expect mythical creatures, roaring tigers, and lashings of luscious orchids in the London-based, plant-loving artist’s largest solo show to date.
