Don’t be fooled by the respectable veneer appropriated for his numerous appearances on Radio 4 and BBC2’s Grumpy Old Men, Arthur Smith is the original enfant terrible of alternative comedy. He may now be in his 50s but he’s never far from dropping his trousers and showing you his pants. Since those early days on the burgeoning scene, Smith’s been curating a show of gags, anecdotes, poetry and song plus a fair few unexpected stunts. In the last few years his shows have featured all manner of people and phenomena; a Spanish lothario, a Leonard Cohen impersonation, naked ladies on Segways, a dancing bear and even a scheduled nap. As for this date? Who knows. Best hang on to those hats. And pants.
