Expect a night of boundary-crossing music and poetry at Band On The Wall this month, as the Swan Street venue welcome local five-piece world music collective Kabantu and Welsh chamber orchestra Sinfonia Cymru to their stage. Kicking off a five-date tour across the UK on 13 June, Close To Folk sees the two ensembles pair up for an evening of collaborative exploration, marrying music from across the globe and celebrating the space where different cultures meet. Blurring the lines between orchestral and traditional folk music with an open book of genres and countries, the night is inspired by Britain’s rich musical and poetic history, written and devised by the players from both ensembles. The performance aims to “give music back to the musicians” by bypassing conductors and composers, creating an organic and joyful celebration of genre-defying world music.
