It’s Manchester Pride this weekend, and amongst the many venues running events is Principal Hotel bar The Refuge, who are offering a packed programme of ticketed and free events. On Friday night, you can catch the weekend launch event from LGBT arts promoters Superbia, who’ll be screening new documentary Beyond ‘There’s Always a Black Issue, Dear’ in the venue’s basement space, along with a Q&A from director Claire Lawrie. On Sunday night, the same basement space will be hosting the Sprechen & Supernature Disco closing party taking the party through the night all the way to 3am.
The Whitworth Gallery launches its latest exhibition this weekend: A collection of works from Paul Cézanne, the vaunted 19th century post-impressionist painter. Cézanne’s work inspired a diverse range of artists including Henri Matisse and Picasso, and this new exhibition represents the biggest collection of his drawings and paintings in the United Kingdom. The exhibition runs through until March 2020, so you’ve got plenty of time to enjoy this one.
Closing out your weekend, Charles Street venue YES hosts this afternoon of jazz-funk, soul, boogie, and breakbeat on their rooftop terrace. Promoters Heliocentric invite their resident DJs Atiké and Chandé to spin a packed Pride playlist of artists from all over the world and celebrate the majesty of ballroom culture.

Cheshire artist Sophie Tea brings HOME – her latest exhibition of large-scale paintings – to Manchester Hall this Friday for one night only. Jet set Tea has achieved something of a cult status over the past year when a mural she painted on the wall of a hostel in India went viral, leading to her becoming one of Britain’s most sought-after young artists.
