The Didsbury arm of Gary Usher’s bistro chain is set to team up with Manchester’s highly rated brewer Cloudwater to create a six course dinner with matched beers. Hispi will be hosting the one off special event on September 19thas they cook dishes such as duck heart kebab and roast guinea fowl, as well as a Cloudwater twist on cheese on toast. James Moffat from Cloudwater will be introducing the beers, whilst the night starts with the ultimate beer pairing – crisps.
Mayfield Depot is gearing up to host a huge array of gin suppliers as the Gin Fever Festival turns up this weekend (September 13th). For three days gin suppliers both local and from further afield will be showcasing over 100 different types of gin whilst street food vendors and DJs create the atmosphere. For those who are less in to the hot spirit, the fully stocked bars will, of course, be dispensing wine, craft beer, and other spirits but we’d recommending hitting the gin, but maybe not too hard if you want to keep dancing until last orders after midnight. If that isn’t enough gin festivaling for one month, the end of September sees the Manchester Gin Festival return to the city.
The Stevenson Square bar scene continues to grow with the announcement of two new late night venues set to open nearby. Selina, the former Hatters Hostel, is to open Cotton, aiming to promote an LGBQT+ line-up whilst the former Texture site that has lain dormant since they moved out will become a live music venue. Cotton will be the first of the two to open, as the doors to the 200 person basement venue will swing open on Friday. The space is intended to be a safe environment for people of all lifestyles and will be open late from 11pm all the way through until 3.30am. The next day will see Off The Square launch on Lever Street, a venue that’ll be having a free disco party every Saturday with club nights and music events throughout the week.
Self-styled punk brewer turned bar operator, Brewdog, is set to lose the site of its central Manchester bar. The Scottish beer makers announced earlier this week that they are not having their lease renewed as their landlord turns the site into a hotel. Fans of the brewer should not fear though, as a new as yet unconfirmed site has been secured to ensure the Punk IPAs will stay flowing.
This Friday 13th, Stevenson Square’s Flok will be teaming up with Tiny Rebel as they hand over their taps to the Welsh beer experts. The first lucky people through the door will get a free can of Tiny Rebel’s finest whilst everyone else can take their pick from the range of casks and kegs on offer, including some special versions of classic beers like their Amplified Stay Puft, that’s similar to their original but more…amplified?
The Bull & Bear, the new restaurant in the heart of new hotel The Stock Exchange, is set to open on November 15th. The restaurant will be housed under the giant glass dome in the room that used to be the trading room in the building’s previous life. Overseen by Michelin starred celeb chef Tom Kerridge, the restaurant will be influenced by his pub in Marlow, The Coach with highlights from his menu there appearing on the Manchester one. This means diners can try Chicken Kiev with Cauliflower Cheese and The Coach Burger with brisket and dill pickle. The restaurant will also be home to two separate private dining areas – a 120 cover called The Vault and a more intimate space called The Bank
