At Christmas time, alongside the traditional food and drink stalls, Cathedral Gardens will be host to an Ice Village, which will feature a number of attractions. Chief among these is an ice rink presented by Skate Manchester. Fun for all skill levels, it’s a seasonal activity the weather can’t spoil – as it’s all under a glass roof. Another returning favourite is the Cavern, which this year has a fairy-tale theme, and is all set to have frozen sculptures of various mythical beasts. These guard the entrance to a castle with battlements and turrets all built from solid blocks of ice. New for this year, and possibly even completely unique, is a frozen Tiki bar. Here, you can enjoy South Pacific-style ambience and tropical cocktails, all at a balmy −10°C. At Santa’s Grotto, the kiddies can have their photo taken with the Big Man and take home a small present. Tickets for all the above are on sale now.
