Every month Mikkeller sponsored runners get together for a bit of social running followed by a bit more social drinking and October always gets the added bonus of happening during Manchester’s beer spectacular, Indy Man Beer Con. Head down to Beer Nouveau for 11am on Saturday with your trainers for a 5k or 10km jog followed by some beers at the brewery’s tap. If you’ve still got energy after that, there are plenty of Indy Man fringe events around the city to whet your whistle at too.
It seems time really does fly when you’re having fun, as proven by the folks behind Refuge who have somehow managed to hit 3 years in the Principal Hotel. Luckily for drinkers and dancers, they know how to throw a party and will be making a weekend of it with the great and the good of Manchester’s partying scene. Expect DJ sets from Unabombers, Homoelectric, Jamie Bull, and more as the dancing goes on into the wee small hours. There will be a special end of summer courtyard party, as well as in the basement, and the public bar. Just don’t expect to head home early.
Okay, so you may have to pay to get the most out of the sale – but it’s free to wander about and see what it costs to get on two wheels these days. Pop-Up Bikes, Manchester’s arch based bike peddlers are hosting a huge sale with bikes available from £45 and lights and locks (which you definitely need in Manchester) available from just £1. With knowledgable and friendly staff, this is a great way to get back on the saddle and avoid the jams.

The Hindu celebrations of Dashehra and Diwali will be lighting up Manchester next weekend as Albert Square plays host to a huge celebration of dance, music, and street entertainment. The culmination of this will be a spectacular lantern procession followed by a fireworks display. This weekend, Central Library lets all who want to be part of the procession head down for a free workshop on lantern making so participants can be ready for the big event. Space is limited so booking is advised.
