Ahh December, the time for office Christmas parties and attempting to cobble together New Years plans at the last minute. Before you know it, January has arrived, and if it weren’t for the news of the new Call Super residency at The White Hotel, it might just be looking like a dim start to the year. But it’s not all doom and gloom; before the New Year sets in there are a whole host of great parties to get your teeth stuck into this December. From a Christmas bash with Optimo, to all nighters with Or:la and Rebekah, plus queer and community-focused NYE parties – may we present, the 12 Club Nights of Christmas (well, and New Year).
Whether it’s an alt-Xmas do you’re after, or if you’re seeking a selection of the best affordable New Years Eve nights on in Manchester this year, we’ve got you sorted. Whatever the outcome of the impending December election, make sure you end the year on a high. Here are our top club nights of the month ahead – the best last dances of 2019.
Now Wave brings the Fuck Buttons founder to the Pink Room of YES, for a live showcase of his best recent solo projects. Blanck Mass recently released his fourth solo album Animated Violence Mild to huge critical acclaim, dubbed the “most aggressive music of his career” and a “treatise on capitalism and loss”, it’s this exciting new material we can’t wait to experience in all its live glory.
Promoters Digitalism have had a fun year – and they plan on ending 2019 in style, bringing house DJ Lone to the Soup Kitchen basement. Warp artist Bibio once said, “I could spot a Lone track by hearing one or two bars.” It remains just as true today; his upbeat, rave-influenced house sound has been evolving but as ever stays true to his nostalgic impulses. This is bound to be a fun one and we can’t wait to have a mid-week knees up.
All-female collective B.L.O.OM (🌸🌼🌺🌸🌼🌺) are back. They welcome Angel D’Lite (previously known as A Boy From Outer Space) to Soup Kitchen for a exploration of the fastest and most furious sounds from old school rave and everything in between. Get ready for a full body work out, they warn. Support comes in from B.L.O.O.M. Residents Phoebe Valentine and DJ Luz. It’s going to be deee-lightful.
New party Celestial Gateway are behind a few exciting listings at The White Hotel this season. In October they hosted Jane Fitz, and they have also partnered to present the new Call Super residency at the Hotel in the new year (Jan 2020). In December they are set to bring Founder of Céad and Deep Sea Frequency, Or:la to the Salford dancing spot. The previous WHP resident and DJ Mag’s Best British Breakthrough artist in 2017, and making her Boiler Room debut that same year, let’s just say, has been smashing it recently. An all nighter at the Hotel, not one to miss.
Zanzibar born vocalist Mim Suleiman will be peforming live at The White Hotel this month, described as “Mama Africa of the modern era”, her sound crosses a magnitude of electronic styles. Support comes from some of our absolute favourites Yadava, Acidhousedeathsquad and Princess Anna.
Bound to be a popular one. An Xmas party led by a formidable duo. Optimo were guaranteed to be part of your soundtrack this summer, covering various festivals such as Love International, ZeeZout and Oasis Festival, consistent Manchester promoters Ordinary Friends are bringing them to the rainy city for seasonal showdown of sounds, serving up your Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.
Kick off the festive season in style at Band on the Wall’s Christmas Funk & Soul Party, with very special guests Jenna & The Gs performing a signature stomping live show. Plus there will be music from Craig Charles’ resident DJs. Early bird tickets are flying at just £6, so for a soul-filled Christmas, act fast.
Modern Love’s Andy Stott heads up a large night at The White Hotel this month, along with Manchester duo Demdike Stare (aka Miles Whittaker & Sean Canty), and Micachu (Mica Levi). Acre & Conor Thomas of P13 MCR complete the billing.
Birmingham-born techno luminary Rebekah promises a formidable and ferocious “marathon set” at Salford club Hidden towards the end of the month.
If you’re after more Homobloc-esque antics, look no further than this New Years party. Two rooms play host to the sounds of Manchester and Leeds’ best LGBT party residents, and music from Homobloc residents Jamie Bull, Gina Breeze and Will Tramp. The event promises a night of love and joy, “This is a queer party for all. It’s about togetherness. it’s about love. We are the dirty bastards, Music is LIFE.”
If clubbing on New Years just isn’t for you, and you still haven’t found that perfect house party, then why not try a community rave at Partisan? Music from the likes of Sofie K (NTS), Bakk Heia BOSS Bitzer Maloney, Banana Hill’s Clay, and the All Hands on Deck crew including, Abena, Anna, Hatyer Player and Babs. Cheaper tickets are available for those with a membership, and very reasonably priced even without. It’s a great shout if you want to end year on a wholesome, fun and positive note.

An evening party starter to kick the month off? Sounds good to us. Andrew Pekler (the man behind Sad Rockets and a member of Bergheim 34) presents a live A/V set of his record Sounds From Phantom Islands – a Sunday experience like no other. So settle in for a “unique blend of synthetic exotica and tropical electronics.” He’ll be joined by sferic’s Space Afrika – Manchester’s finest post-ambient-dub duo, Jake Muir for a UK debut and sferic label boss Will Boyd. Microdosing [NTS] will also be sounding the evening.
