Art: Quarantine’s photographic exhibition Lived-In Rooms offers a glimpse of Salford’s past & future

The Lived-In Rooms exhibition from local arts ensemble Quarantine aims to shine a light on how the way we live has changed by bringing an inspiring series of photographic portraits to an Urban Splash house in Salford’s new Irwell Riverside estate, transforming it into a temporary gallery space. The exhibition features 1973’s iconic June Street series from photographers Daniel Meadows and Martin Parr, which transports viewers back in time to offer a fascinating flashback to the historic Salford street – a quintessential Northern terrace which was once used for exterior shots on the long-running soap Coronation Street. In addition, the exhibition will feature newly commissioned portraits from photographer and exhibition co-curator Gavin Parry, which depict life in modern day Urban Splash terrace houses within the Irwell Riverside area of Salford. By juxtaposing the two, Lived-In Rooms manages to capture a snapshot of the past, one that was facing demolition and great change, and place it alongside the present, in a community that is just emerging in these new modular terrace houses. This eye-opening exhibition is open until Sunday 1 December and is completely free to attend.
