A little sunshine is hard to come by in Manchester – especially in January – but not if you visit the Science and Industry Museum. Their glowing exhibition The Sun tracks and celebrates our long-standing and ever-changing relationship with our galaxy’s closest star. Extending its run into March 2020, their immersive gallery experience details the history this giver-of-life has played in human history, from being the focal point for ancient myths, to impacting health predictions and giving us the gift of solar power. Among the many artefacts on display are a prototype fusion reactor, ancient Babylonian tablets dating back centuries and even solar panels once owned by President Jimmy Carter during his stint in The White House. Attendees will also get the opportunity to see the sun rise from various places around the world, kick back in their bespoke indoor beach and indulge in a bit of selfie time with various interactive digital activities. Kids go free at this exhibition – with the Science and Industry Museum team even providing a free family trail sheet with games and challenges that can be collected on arrival or printed off at home before your visit. Tickets are available from just £8 for adults and £6 concessions.
